(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit from Amazon about a month ago. It's touted as the flagship and latest technology from Sharp and I have no idea why this player doesn't work. The first week it did everything very well, as stated in it's advertisement, then it wouldn't play Blue Ray discs... Upon reading the manual cover to cover, the only trouble shooting advice was to "clean the disc" I was playing brand new disc purchased especially for this item. We watch five hours of DVD's three days a week, that's it. It played the regular DVD's wonderfully and with the level of upscaling, they look like Blue Ray discs. Then three weeks later, it stopped playing the DVD's. In both cases, it would reject the disc saying incompatible.... even the discs it played previously the three weeks before. I looked for hours on the internet for reasons and solutions for this. THERE ARE NONE. They will tell you it needs firm ware updating. The unit is only a month old, why? I live remote rural and am not interested in taking the unit over a hundred miles to the nearest service dealer, waiting weeks for something that's built to just play discs but doesn't. I wanted to match a sharp product with my sharp Quatron television, which functions perfectly. From my research, it seems the Blue Ray technology is not yet stabilized and every manufacturer approaches it differently, some well, others not so well. I should have taken more heed to the other low ratings for the other Sharp model BD players, but figured with this model, they worked out the kinks. They didn't. If a small percentage of humidity and a tiny smudge keep this player from functioning or recognizing a "compatible" disc, then it's not functional at any cost.
