(More customer reviews)We got one of these to save space in our home as the DVD racks were getting on my nerves.
Other than the player you need:
- 1GB or better USB flash drive (around $10-15 usually).
- Ethernet cable to connect to internet to download movie titles and cover art to machine.
- HDMI cable highly recommended for better quality (but it does come with the red/white/yellow cables).
Most importantly you will need an entertainment unit BIG enough to house this. We have an IKEA one that it just fits on - width wise is fine, but it's the depth that is larger than most items.
So, take it out of the box, hook up the cable to the TV, the one to the internet router, put in the USB flash drive (even if you hardly ever use it, it's easier to put it in NOW, than have to move the thing out later to put in the flash drive as it goes in the back), hook up your sound system (optional), then plug it in.
There is an "easy set up" feature and once you do that you are ready to load the DVD's.
My suggestion, load 20-40 at a time, once they are in and the main menu appears on the TV screen press the "DISC LOAD" button on the left of the machine itself and it will start flashing and then eventually access Gracenote and load all 40 discs at once. At the end of this you may see UNKNOWN DISC, so use the remote to highlight each title one by one, then press the OPTIONS button on the remote and arrow down to "LOAD" and press OK (the center button of the circle) and it will try to load again - I found with several discs this actually worked and it DID find them doing it one by one.
For the few unknown discs I still had I just typed in the name - there were only 3 of them, from about 300 or so!
**** One issue I had - one movie loaded from Gracenote as "Kick Ass" when it was actually "Twilight: Eclipse" - I called Sony, guy on phone had no idea about this product or what Gracenote even was for. Then used ONLINE help, girl there did know product, said refer to page 50 (in English part) of manual, load the disc manually as above for unknown discs and it came up with a huge list of titles and I just had to scroll down and select the right title - problem solved!
DO I HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THIS AT ALL?
- The remote is enormous and NOT backlit as far as I can tell - so SONY, please at least provide the backlight function iun future!
- FEDEX delivered the item, and I got it on sale at around $610, but they left it on my door step! It's not in an outer box, so they left a HUGE Sony player right in full view of anyone passing by. So, as a note to the Price Pros, I'd pay a few dollars extra for signed for delivery and would rather something this expensive not be left outside my house for however long it takes for me to get home!
All in all, no issues with this at all - love it so much, works just as fast as my other Sony Blu ray did, saves so much space, looks SO tidy, if I have any issues in future I'll update this!
