The listing for this particular Pioneer Blu-Ray player, BDP-33FD, clearly indicates the player is "Region Free." Description details include, "Hardware Modified, We guarantee 100% that our modifications will work for as long as you have your machine."
Between the time I ordered this machine from Amazon affiliated seller Big Value Inc. and the time the player arrived, the first review (see below) was posted; to my dismay, the review stated that the player did NOT play all region DVDs. I immediately contacted the seller, Big Value Inc., asking about the region capabilities, and was told that I should contact the manufacturer for technical details on the product.
Again, the listing clearly states "All Region" in the title, and the description details include the phrase, "Hardware Modified, We guarantee 100% that our modifications will work for as long as you have your machine."
There are NO signs of "hardware modifications" to this player. All items and accessories were factory packaged in a factory-sealed box. There is no indication that the player has been modified in any way. I tested the player with various Region Code standard DVDs, and it will play REGION ONE and REGION ZERO discs only.
As a basic DVD and Blu Ray player, the BDP-33FD might be an acceptable unit, but it is NOT a multi-region player, it is NOT as advertised, and the various sellers offering this item do NOT "guarantee 100% that our modifications will work for as long as you have your machine" despite what the product description clearly states.
I purchased this player for the advertised all-region capabilities, which it lacks. From my location, return shipping costs are prohibitive, so I guess I'm stuck with it.
Also, keep an eye on the shipping charges from Big Value Inc. While the advertised shipping cost on the Amazon page is low, the default when the order is processed is "expedited shipping," which is considerably more expensive.
