(More customer reviews)I have used four of these as a 2nd level backup for my mp3 files (over 120GB worth). The disk is reliable, easily formatted for use as if it were a "floppy." In conjunction with "Easy2Sync" software, it is easy to keep the backup current. The recording speed is, as expected, slow; this is not particularly a problem, as updating the file list doesn't take much time. (Creating the originals takes hours, but works securely in the background.) My BD burner is Sony, with which I have had no problems. I suppose one could copy BD movies onto this disk, but I haven't had reason to do so, and I'm not sure if it will play BD movies on my Panasonic BD player.
In contrast with backup tapes, using the BD-RE is slower to create, but has very quick restore capacity, being random access rather than sequential.
As for loss over time - There's no long-term experience with these, but, in comparison with tape, which is subject to eventual magnetic decay due to external magnetic fields, there is no theoretical reason to believe that these will be any less long-lived than DVD-RWs.
I have not used these long enough to exhaust the rewriting capacity, and don't know what that might be.
