This projector looks great! I mounted it to the ceiling with this mounting kit: Vantage Point CGUPM06-S Universal Front Projector Mount - Silver because many cheaper universal mounts require some modifications to work with certain projectors. And I'm projecting on this screen: 70INX70IN Model B Manual Screen Wall/ceiling Matte White.
High Def:
The 1080P simulated image from this projector is incredible. You can't tell the extra pixels aren't there. The actual image looks very film like. If you stand 1 foot from the screen you can see a screen door, but no one watched movies that close. I typically sit 7-10 feet back and the picture is perfect. Switching between a high def signal and a standard def signal takes this projector several seconds. This is annoying. Yes, you think you will only watch high def. Well many menus are not high def, so if you go to a cable box menu to choose something to watch you have to wait several seconds with no screen. Then after you choose something, you have to wait several more seconds to go back.
3D:
It is an absolute pain in the butt to turn on and off 3D. I use my FIOS On Demand to watch free HBO 3D movies. First you have to go to the very last configuration menu, then the last option for advanced, then the last option for 3d, then you have to choose the first option to turn it on. then the menus completely exit automatically (Other menu selections don't exit). However after turning on 3d you have to go back to that same exact menu to select side by side. This doesn't exit automatically so you now press the menu button several times to exit. To turn 3d off, you have to reverse the process.
However, 3D does work great. And you don't need a PC or a special box. All you need to do is get some DLP-Link compatible glasses. I got these because they have such great reviews: Ultimate3DHeaven Ultra-Clear DLP Link compatible 3D Glasses. Thats it. 3d glasses, this projector and something which offers 3d, like FIOS or a 3d blu ray player. The 2D to 3D is ok, but its not real 3d. Some things pop out nicely but its not quite the same. I don't know if its worth the headache. But to turn on 2d-3d conversion, you just need to press 1 button on the remote. go figure.
Pros: Great image although the native resolution is lower than 720P. You probably won't be able to tell.
Low price on a projector that has the latest 3d technology in it and the only 2d-3d projector I can find.
Light weight if you are a travelling type.
3d built in. Many budget projectors require the purchase of a separate converter or a PC.
Turns off quickly. About 5 seconds.
Cons:
Menus and interface are poorly written
Slow to switch between resolutions like 480p, 720p, 1080p.
The built in speaker is inadequate for more than a small gathering of 3 people.
