(More customer reviews)Throughout the years I haven't been a huge fan of Sony products as they've always been overpriced in comparison to other companies that offer the same products with more features at a lower price...but after buying a refurb Sony 46" Bravia and this home theater system, I think my eyes have been opened!
Now sure the items are still a bit on the expensive side, but how amazingly well they "play nice" together is worth it (just like Apple products).
The sound is fantastic and the Bravia Sync is AMAZING as you just plug in the HDMI cables and it's completely set up with the TV recognizing that you'll be using the sound system for sound instead of the TV speakers with a lot more beyond that!
Even when it comes to my PS3 it rocks as both the TV & Sound system remotes work with the PS3's DVD/Blu Ray playing functions, so it eliminated the need for me to buy a seperate Harmony remote piece just to get it to work (I might even sell my Harmony remote all together the Sony remotes work so well).
All in all, if your looking for a good lower end priced home theater system with some great features, I'd think you would very pleased with the HT-SS380!

Klipsch CS-500 2.1 Home Theater System with DVD Player Review

(More customer reviews)The sound from this system and easy connectivity were a big plus. 2.1 sound was good, solid base and good spoken word sound for movies/TV.
Unfortunately, the DVD player starting conking out and wouldn't play DVD's without skipping or pixelation after about 90 days. Trying to get an exchange through Klipsch or Amazon. The discs that were problematic on this unit played fine on another DVD player.
I've learned a lesson that it might be better to buy big, heavy items like this through a local store that might be easier in terms of exchange, especially when it quickly became defective.
UPDATE 4/12/09 - although amazon was a pain, Klipsch handled the situation very well, offering an exchange and even upgrading to the next model up.

Sony BDVIS1000 5.1Ch Blu-ray Disc/DVD Home Theater System Review

(More customer reviews)When I set out to buy my home theater in a box I set out to Best Buy to get demos of all of the latest and greatest toys. When I told the sales person my requirements (blu-ray disc player, wireless rear speakers, preferably Sony) this was the model he brought me to. Not being too impressed with the size of the speakers (if fact, I told him they were very cute), I quickly mentioned I wanted something with power.
What can I say? After the demo, I was blown away. I thought it was some kind of trick and Sony had pulled the wool over my eyes to get me to drop a thousand big ones. I went to every tiny speaker and covered it with my hand to check as to how much sound was coming out. Trust me, there is power in those golf ball sized speakers. I was so impressed, bought it immediately.
When I got it home it was like Christmas, and I had it out of the box in less than 5 minutes. All of the speakers are color coded, so it's really idiot proof. Because I didn't mount anything to the wall it took me a little under 30 minutes to set everything up. The two rear speakers are wireless, but not really. They connect to a receiver box that you keep in the back of the room so there is still wires. When I turned everything on, I did the quick setup and synced my 57" Bravia TV and haven't looked back!
So here are my pros and cons of this system:
pros-
* very easy to set up
* small speakers don't interfere with my decor or overwhelm my small apartment.
* network updates.
* Blu-Ray 2.0
* S-AIR technology (wireless rear speakers)
* two HDMI Inputs
* Aesthetically speaking, it's beautiful.
cons-
* price, you can get a PS3 and a traditional home theater for cheaper, separately.(this is why I gave it a 4 stars instead of 5)
* the rear speakers aren't truly wireless, so little room for adjustments with out wires running up your walls.
* because it is HTIB you can't have the versatility you would with a normal receiver.

Philips HTS3565D/37 1000 Watt DVD 1080P HDMI Upconversion Dolby Home Theater with iPod Dock Review

(More customer reviews)I have been looking for a good solution for my sound system. I don't want to go all out just yet with a 1500 system, but I don't want a crappy Insignia system. This is without a doubt a better than expected solution. I use this for Satellite and watching movies on my computer and my iPod. It brought a whole new life to my living room.
1000 watts is more than enough juice for a medium size living room, the bass is flawless and very powerful, I eventually had to turn it down. I does very good Dolby 5.1. The center speaker is loud enough, I do not have a problem not hearing diaglogue with music or action is going on in a movie.
The remote is very handy and easy to use. Yeah yeah, it's one more remote for the house but the ease of switching the surround mode and device is simple.
I highly reccommend these speakers, you will not be disappointed.

[Good]
1. Convenient five-dvd player (you can put 5 dvds inside.)
2. Xvid & WMV (you can play all your avi & wmv files)
3. Usb hosting (you can plug in your usb-hard drive or pmp and play your files.)
4. HDMI input (only 1, unfortunately)
5. FM-tuner is a bonus (your favorite station coming out from 5+1 speakers!)
6. extension cord for Ipod or other audio players
7. Sound from 5+1 speakers is really good and loud.
8. User interface is nice. You can change the background image with screen capture.
[Minus]
1. wires .. wires .. (I know this unit is not a wireless, but I wish it were. One thing I notice is that this unit has an option for a wireless connection for 2 rear speakers.)
2. speaker shape. They look okay, but to me a little rough.
Overall, I enjoy all the bells and whistles on this unit. It was a really successful and satisfying purchase.
* Updated: It didn't have a zone-free dvd playback feature. I removed it from [Good] list. I am really sorry about this wrong information. At the time, I happened to play a foreign movie released for US market and I mistook it. Again, my sincere apologies to those who bought this player for that reason due to my review. However, my wife and I are still happy with this player and enjoying it.

(More customer reviews)The system was not very expensive, but you can tell. The iPod dock is why I bought it, but it wouldn't play most of my playlists because they were too big. The wires for the speakers are connected. You can't disconnect them. I haven't seen anything like it since I had a boombox in the 1980's. I haven't played a DVD or CD yet. I assume it works OK. The sound is not that bad. If you want something more sophisticated, you have to pay for it.

I connect my mp3 player directly to the receiver and BAMM! great sound all through the house. I also have connected my Samsung BD-P1500, which makes the Blu-ray experience incredible.
It is extremely easy to set up, and its upconverting feature makes any movie look good at 1080p resolution.
I recommend this product, if you want a great surround sound system at a good price.
