Sharp doesn't even list this orphan model on their web site. And judging by their support area they don't pay any attention to these products. Presumably they are OEM (meaning they slap their label on some unknown manufacturer's work). This machine is absolute junk. The front panel buttons are non-responsive. You have to physically unplug the unit to force it to power down (not easy when the cords are behind equipment). I've updated the firmware 2x since I've had the unit and it still won't play the most recent discs. I'm an electronic engineer and it took me an hour to do the update, I'd imagine most consumers would have to spend a hundred dollars to ship it off for service. I honestly don't know if any other vendors have better equipment. Apple's Steve Jobs once said that Blu-Ray was a "world of hurt." I think I see what he was referring to. The standards for this platform seem to be a moving target. Even discs that work can take 15 minutes to "boot up." Even the worst DVD is up and running in a minute. Don't buy Sharp and proceed carefully if you buy another brand. Be sure you can take the unit back with a full refund. Try renting discs before you buy any.
