(More customer reviews)The Asus DVD Writer is just that. It will not play retail/movie Blu_Ray discs without additional software.
This stunned me when I made the discovery. Took for granted the Asus DVD Blu-Ray Writer would play Blu-Ray movies native.
You have to have additional software to play retail/movie Blu-ray discs. Luckily, I do have additional Blu-Ray player software. If I did not have the additional software I would have returned the Asus SBW-06C1S-U for a complete refund feeling raped.
The Asus Blu-Ray Writer does burn Blu-Ray discs. Did a test batch of about 22 GBs worth of data with perfect results.
The burned Blu-Ray disc worked fine in my native Windows 7 Blu-Ray player laptop. For you Linux people, the burned Blu-Ray
disc worked fine in Ubuntu 10.04 (am sure in all flavors too). Linux can not play Blu-Ray retail movies for now. Am sure they will have a Blu-Ray player application in the near future. Dual boot with Windows 7.
The speed is good. The fastest Blu-Ray discs are 4 times (I believe). This writer is 6 times. Burned the 22 Gbs in about an hour.
Asus not providing software for a Blu-Ray player is an outrage.
There is a $20.00 rebate with this model. The coupon is downloadable from amazon.com.
Am keeping it. Asus is running a con with this SBW-06C1S-U
One more thing, if you do not have two USB ports right next to each other with a week processor you will not be able to use the Asus Writer unless you use a USB hub that Asus states may not work with this model. My processor is a quad array
with USB ports farther away than the USB cords length. I need but one port to power the Asus Writer. How stupid is Asus?
