I installed a 1TB sata HD which worked fine.
Lots of room to use mini shock mount screws (full size may or may not fit).
With the front cover on, it got rather warm, but not hot during light use.
I would not try a heavy backup without removing the front cover - this reduced the temp 3-5c.
The major problem is that the USB port did not support SMART!
I found no way to park the drive for power down!
This is said to shorten the drive life greatly
(unless you leave it on for days at a time).
No way to check drive temp (but to buy a thermometer).
I would not buy this for a HD if you plan to use it on USB often.

(More customer reviews)I just got a Blu-Ray burner and wanted to mount it externally for use with my laptop. I picked up this enclosure, and it's a very good basic one. It does exactly what I would want it to do- with no tools needed, I had my drive mounted and attached to my computer inside of 5 minutes. The plastic bits probably won't hold up if you frequently change out the drive, but who constantly changes the drive in an external enclosure? It doesn't have a fan, so it's quiet. It's a little bit bulky, but I think that's the case for any enclosure of this size. The price was great, so if you need a no frills external enclosure for a DVD/Blu-Ray drive, this should work.
