I think the main reason why is because this is a newer TV, manufactured only this year, so it's not out there in large quantities yet.
Well... I gave it a month and now it's time for my feedback.
I LOVE THIS TV. That is the best description.
The picture clarity is really quite awesome!
The set has some kind of advanced video tuner and you can set it from Low to Medium to High.
Well, i'm a tinkerer and instead of reading directions, i go through all the menu's and set what i THINK is the best. So when i got to this setting i put it on high.
What was a little off putting at first is that when watching HD TV (regular tv as well as movies), the picture frequently changes where it feels like one moment you're watching TV and the next moment the entire scene/screen cuts to a LIVE shot. I don't know how to describe this fully. Images and people are so enhanced that it literally seems like there is a set of bleachers and you're sitting in them watching them act/film... again, as if it's live.
Although this is cool, it's also a new way of watching tv. At times i found it distracting and it even made me debate on returning the TV. The flip side though is that the picture quality was so incredibly sharp, you could actually see the stiching in characters clothing! Amazing.
Anyhow, when the scenes cut to appearing "live" there is also a sense that it is computer enhanced. So i finally got out the manual to find out what was causing this.
I found it in the "REEL120 Motion" setting. I set it to LOW and that resolved the issue.
In fact, I joke with my wife that this TV is a "3D wanna be!"
In all, I could not be happier with this machine.
The picture clarity and quality is outstanding. There's all kinds of picture modes and multiple times where you can actually set the machine to be "pro day" during daylight hours or when the room is brightly lit and "pro night" which changes the settings and darkens the screen some when the room is darker. This is especially useful if the TV is in the bedroom as it's not quite as bright. It has multiple energy savings features, 4 HDMI built in and so much more.
One last thing to note, you know how you'll be watching a regular broadcast channel and then when a commercial comes, the screen goes from 16:9 to 4:3 and you have the dark vertical lines on the left and right of the screen? Well, with this machine, the BLACK's are so good, that every now and then you can't really tell that the screen changed. You look away, look back and think... hmmm, something's different and then in a few moments the screen gets bigger again. The Blacks are so dark, it does not jump out at you when the screen changes. And lastly... this TV does the best job of any TV i've ever owned of keeping the volume consistent when the TV program goes to a commerical. I thought my Samsung LDC did a decent job of lowering the volume when commercials came on, but nothing like this machine. In the month we've been using it, i think we've had to lower the volume on only 1 channel when commercials come on vs. nearly all of them!
If you look around, you'll find this TV for under $500.
My only real criticism is in the volume control, actually. It's DIFFICULT to program a universal remote (like the Harmony 880) so that when you do volume up or down, it goes by only 1 numbered increment at a time. Instead, when you do volume up or down, it goes up by 2 or 3 at a time. I've done custom setting changes now on my Harmony and it's helped but still... i wish the tv reacted better to the volume commands.
Other wise, I just can't complain. It's a great tv and a great price.UPDATE... it's now 4 months in total since buying this tv. My review remains the same. I'm very pleased and am considering buying a 2nd now to replace the LR tv. Price came down $20.00 too at the place i bought it originally.
