Imation Disc Stakka - CD/DVD Management Tool Review

(More customer reviews)At the beginning, I really thought this is a very nice product. It does solve the CD organize and automatic storage problem for many people. However, this equipment is poorly engineered. I bought four units and all of them failed within a year for various reasons. There is no easy way to even take the discs out of the faulty units. If you ever think about move this equipment to another room, it is almost bound to fail. Customer service usually take 2 days to respond. The phone service guys do not answer questions about disc stakka because they know this is a bad product and rather not to deal with it with the disappointed customer. Imagining someone charges your $400 to organize 300+ CDs for a year and then quit. I am completely pissed off.

Samsung HT-C5500 Blu-ray Home Theater System Review

(More customer reviews)The HT-C5500 is a solid all-in-one home theater package at a good price, but you need to know what it can--and can't--do before you decide to buy.
First, some pros and cons:
Pros:
*Low cost
*Compact
*Easy setup
*Integrates with Samsung AnyConnect+ TVs for one-step DVD playback
*Decent enough sound and sufficient volume for a family room
*Netflix and YouTube connectivity work well
*Completely integrated in one relatively small unit
*iPod/iPhone dock included
*Speakers look nice and are very small and unobtrusive
Cons:
*Very limited inputs (Audio only; there are no HDMI inputs--the description above is wrong)
*Flabby bass response (no surprise given the 8lb passive subwoofer)
*Completely integrated--if one part dies, your entire home theater system is offline
*Wireless Internet use requires optional ($70) proprietary Samsung LAN adapter
*Proprietary speaker connectors
*AnyConnect+ can be a little wonky: If you have a disc in the tray, DVD playback seems to override all the other functions such as Internet services or the AUX input.
Even given all the Cons, this system suits my needs very well. I already owned a Samsung TV. I didn't want a proliferation of remotes or components. And the odd shape of my living room meant that I wasn't going to get optimal surround sound in any case, so I wasn't willing to pay a fortune for a system.
I ran the HT-C5500's HDMI output to one input on my TV and connected my FIOS box's optical audio output and my Mac mini's analog audio output to the appropriate inputs on the HT-C5500. The HT-C5500's remote is nothing special, but it makes it quite easy (after a little practice and reading of the manual) to switch between setups. You still need, however, to manually switch between HDMI inputs on the TV depending on what source you want to watch.
Note, however, that I'm at the absolute limit of what this system can do. I couldn't add, for instance, a game console into the mix.
Still, I'm very happy with my purchase. Yes, the HT-C5500 hits a wall quickly, but if you intend to stop before that wall arrives, you won't be disappointed.

(More customer reviews)We purchased this item for about $130 on a black friday sale in Nov. 28, 2008. It worked great until 8:15 P.M. on March 29, 2009. It stopped playing Blu-Rays. After e-mailing Funai, I received a reply with a customer service number. I called that number and they referred me to a local repair center. I was advised by this authorized repair center I would have to pay a MINIMUM of $45, just to have them look at. (REALLY! $45 on something that isn't 4 months old. What about the 1 year manufacturer's warranty? I am aware that I could have purchased an extended warranty from Wal-Mart, but most financial experts say they are unecessary upcharges designed to make more money for the stores. These experts say if you feel that you need the extended warranty, just put that money toward a better product. (I sure wish we did). That $130 could have gone towards a Sony that we will now buy. Based on the "durability" on a Magnavox product and the "great" customer service provided by Funai, I will avoid these products in the future. And I would advise others to do the same.

Aleratec DVD/CD Shredder XC 240145 (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)There are many shredders on the market. I owned several ones through the course of many years. This shredder has three things that differentiate itself from other shredders.
1.Cross shredding pattern: Many shredders just cut paper into long thin strips. This shredder cross-cuts the paper into tiny pieces making it virtually impossible to put the original document back.
2.CD/DVD cutting: It cuts CD/DVD into 1 ½ inch strips. It makes those CD/DVDs unreadable. Apparently if you use it on credit cards, you still can read the numbers from those strips. It is not meant to shred the information on the face of the CD/DVD/credit cards. It is meant to make the digital data unreadable. It has its own separate tiny container within for the cut pieces. You can examine the pieces if you think the information on the surface needs more processing.
3.Powerful: I owned some shredders before with under-power motors. Those shredders will have paper jams constantly. This shredder seems to have a very powerful motor. So far I have not experienced any paper jams jet.
It is also reasonably priced. If I want to find a thing I don't like, it will be the size of the container. I wish it was bigger, so I don't have to empty it so often. I even hope that it has an opening for office waste that I don't need to shred. In such a way, I don't have to have two waste baskets. All in all, I recommend this shredder.

(More customer reviews)I've been doing my own DVD business for 4 years now and I've just now used some of my money to purchase a DVD burning tower. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. This tower kicks out 5 quality DVDs in 9 minutes. You can also tweek your burn times if you need to. I've yet to notice if extending the burn times adds to the quality.
The screen tells you while their burning and how long it'll be and when it's done, it tells you if all 5 were success and if there were any failures. I've had some failures, maybe 7 to 8% of them don't burn good. Yet, the time I save using this tower is well worth the purchase.
Saves me tons of times. I no longer have to wait to edit on projects while DVDs are burning.
