(More customer reviews)There are so many cases where I need to temporarily record a Blu-ray movie. I don't need an archive of every movie I've ever seen, but when you've rented something and end up not having time to watch it, having the option to make a quick copy to watch at your leisure is great. Since rewritable blu-ray discs are not cheap, (nothing worse then spending good money for one and having write errors!!) I like to stick with high quality Japanese media like these Sony. Google the forums and you'll see that these are really reliable discs.

Technology is moving faster than time. When VCRs came out, it took over 20 years to move to the DVD world, then another 10 years to the Blu-ray era but now every 3 or 4 months a new Blu-ray Disc or Player comes out. With all this 3D technology fever, and HD, 1080p, 5.1, 7.1 Surround Sound, DTS HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, you name it, the complexity of the formats have impacted the Blank Media Industry because more quality and space is needed to be able to support all those types of Video/Audio Formats.
What you get from the Panasonic BD-R DL is superior quality. Any copy made will have same quality as the original. These are (along with TDK & Sony) the best Blu-ray Discs available on the market today for Movies transfer. Of course they can be used for DATA but you do not need to pay this price if that is your intention, the main idea of this type of Blu-ray is MOVIE COPYING so you get 1080/24p along with any of the top Audio Formats like DTS HD Master Audio.

The point is that from now on you will need high quality Medias in order to be able to enjoy all this new stuff. You may store thousands of files, photos, music albums, etc or used it for the best it was intended, record from your HD camcorder or copy other Blu-rays Movies in their full 1080p HD so you will have a same exceptional quality for you. Then, when you get bored just erased it and record it again with some new movie, vacations trip, etc.
These Blue Rays may be helpful to you for years to come!

Panasonic LMBE50DE 50GB Blu-ray Disc Review

(More customer reviews)This disc worked fine with an LG GGW-H20L writer. However, it takes several hours to burn the whole disc at 2x. And the BD-RE is not competitive with hard drives given the 50 GB capacity. You can get a 250 GB SATA hard drive for about the same price as this disc as of this writing. The cost per GB should not be 5x that of hard drives.
August 10, 2009 update :
New star rating is one star only.
One year after purchasing it, this disc now gives systematic verification errors when used with the Imgburn program. The disc has had less than 20 full passes and was kept within its protective jewel case when unused.
I called Panasonic support about my problem, and they informed me that their parts only carry a 90 day warranty ! They wanted to charge me $64.99 plus shipping, which was more than what I paid for the original disc. And it's twice the price of a new one from this amazon vendor. Needless to say, I'm disgusted that a single disc that originally costs this much only has such a short warranty. I will not be buying any more discs from Panasonic. Buyer beware !
FYI, I tried to amend the star rating and change it down to one, but Amazon wouldn't let me change it ! I was told by an Amazon rep that this can only be done within 30 days ! Only the text can be changed after that. It doesn't make any sense. A lot of products can fail after 30 days. I'm considering deleting the original review and posting another one, but I haven't done that yet due to the fact that it was marked helpful. I may do so if more reviews are posted on this disc.
March 2010 update : Amazon got to their senses and the star rating can now be changed. Reducing to 2 stars.
