I don't need an archive of every movie I've ever seen, but when you've rented something and end up not having time to watch it, having the option to make a quick copy to watch at your leisure is great. Since rewritable blu-ray discs are not cheap, (nothing worse then spending good money for one and having write errors!!) I like to stick with high quality Japanese media like these Sony. Google the forums and you'll see that these are really reliable discs.

(More customer reviews)Great product! Owned this for 2 days now and love it! Got my Xbox 360, Wii, and computer all hooked up to this baby and am not looking back.
There is definatly a downside which I have mostly remedied, however, most people will not be able to. The thing is that this projector has NO AUDIO OUTPUT. Which is weird considering it has HDMI and such. This means if you connect something with the HDMI, you are stuck using the build in speaker for audio. Bummer. Also, if you connect using the y/r/w cables you are also stuck using the internal speaker, but if you have a stereo like I do, connect it to the stereo and run it to the projector. Not that the internal speaker sounds bad, it actually sounds great, but it's just not the best while watching home movies or gaming.
Great picture quality and projects and image of about 5 1/2' x 7'. Actually is slightly bigger, but roughly that size. I'm very happy with my projector.
UPDATE LOST ONE STAR*- Projector did not work today, first time since I bought it (6 monthsish). Ive mostly used it on economy setting. I hear a rattling like broken pieces of something, and after disassembling it, there might be a big problem. Projector wasn't dropped, hit or anything, it sits far above and out of reach. I now have to hopefully find a resolution, either something exploded inside, or bulb burst. Im 50/50 on which it is right now. Ill update ASAP
UPDATE TO UPDATE-5TH STAR RETURNED- So the reason is my bulb had exploded. First I was upset and believed it to be an equipment issue, but after realizing the extension cord I run this from was unplugged, I put 2 and 2 together. Cord unplugged while running (even in low power mode) will cause the bulb to not cool down while being around the already cool surroundings = BOOM goes the dynamite (bulb). So this was my bad (or another occupant), and not the projector. I'd give it 5 1/2 stars now for doubting it. Ha ha, enjoy and don't accidentally unplug this!!!!

(More customer reviews)I used to own a Roku and I used it almost every day for my daughter who loves all the children's programs that are available. After about 1and half years the roku broke I did a little research and found out that insignia made a blueray player for $100.00 that would stream Netflix. I got it home, did the software update, which only took 2 min, and started using the streaming video from Netflix. I love the menu for Netflix that insignia created. It was a big improvement over the Roku. The only thing I miss is that Roku also allowed Amazon videos on demand to be rented and streamed also. No I no longer have this option. I hope they upgrade it to add this option.

Samsung BD-C5900 1080p 3D Blu-ray Disc Player Review

(More customer reviews)A BD player these days is not just for playing BDs and DVDs but also for playing music CDs and serving content from the internet.
Let me go through the nice aspects of this player first:
* Fast BD/CD load times - disks load almost instantly
* Nice picture quality. Upscaling to 1080p works very well too (at least when viewed on a 46" Samsung LED TV).
* Overall nice for watching BD/DVDs
Here are the areas of improvement:
* Remote control buttons could be made better. Either the buttons are not good or the BD player does not respond fast enough - forwarding, rewinding and using the direction buttons is not exactly fun.
* If your primary purpose is to view content online, skip Samsung entirely. Very few of the apps mentioned on their website are actually available. Go for Sony instead (I am returning this player and getting a Sony). The user interface is also poor. The new Apple TV is the best in terms of interface (and until third party apps are available on that, the Sony BD player should fill in the void).
* The player supports DLNA - but the Samsung implementation is full of bugs. Besides it lacks features such as shuffling songs, forwarding or rewinding video and that makes it practically useless.
* Not at all recommended for playing music on a hi fi system - you will notice the sound made when the disk rotates.
Overall, Samsung has done a poor job with its BD players. Its TVs are awesome but it has a long way to go in catching up on the BD player quality.
UPDATE Oct 26, 2010
I exchanged this played for Sony BD-P570 a couple of weeks ago. The Sony player also has issues with DLNA. Also, Netflix on Sony freezes all the time and several other features do not work despite a firmware upgrade. I cannot recommend Sony either and am still searching for a BD player with network features that work as advertised. If you are aware of one, please let me know.
UPDATE Dec 23, 2010
After trying several other players, I finally came back to the Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Disc Player when the price on Amazon dropped to $138 a few days ago. With the latest firmware (several versions newer than the one I had tried earlier, the wireless setup and Netflix freezing issues are resolved. Further, this is the only player that plays 1080/60p, 28fps files from my Panasonic camcorder without any problems. I am bumping up my rating from 1 star to 4 stars.
If you don't want the hassle of trying different players and returning them like I did, go for Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray Disc Player. It is not perfect but better than other players in the market.

I am curious why the shipping DOUBLES the price of these disks, however. For that price, I expect them to be shipped across the Pacific on the back of an endangered Blue Whale, who subsequently suicides in San Diego harbor so his carcass can provide fuel for the Hummer delivering it to my doorstep.

(More customer reviews)Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for, basically the same thing, let's look at our top of the line offer, Monster HDMI 1000HD Ultra-High Speed HDMI Cable (2 meters) and do a quick comparison.
This item supports the HDMI 1.3 standard. Any HDMI 1.3 cable can carry up to 10.2 Gbit/s. Hmmm... I suppose the Monster is much better, right? Well... it "guarantees a certified cable bandwidth of 10.2" Okay, but the Monster also supports "x.v.Color, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD". It turns out that, all of the above, and more, are part of the HDMI 1.3 specs and they are fully supported by every cable that complies to the standard and can be had for about 95% less in the Premium Gold. The expensive brand presentation simply enumerates the HDMI 1.3 specs as if it being HDMI 1.3 compliant was a really big deal. It is not a big deal. Even a cable that costs 95% less is HDMI 1.3 compliant.
My suggestion: if you think that the proponents of the expensive brand have a point when they claim that their product is a lot more durable, buy TWO Premium Gold wires and still pay almost 90% less than you would pay for one of the expensive ones.
My personal experience: I've never paid 'a lot' for an HDMI cable because it makes no sense to pay more. I took home one of the 'expensive' ones once because the salesman promised to take it back if I wasn't amazed by the difference. It made zero difference and I returned it.

You may store thousands of files, photos, music albums, etc or used it for the best it was intended, record from your HD camcorder or copy other Blu-rays Movies in their full 1080p HD so you will have a same exceptional quality for you. Then, when you get bored just erased it and record it again with some new movie, vacations trip, etc.

Panasonic's 50GB re-writable discs are much more reliable than generic alternatives and not necessarily more expensive. I've been using imported Japanese media for about a year now. Before I used to have to import it from Japan myself. Much easier to purchase now that you can get it right on Amazon and have it shipped from the United States.
If you haven't tried Japanese Blu-ray Media before, now is the time.
