(More customer reviews)I never take the time to review the stuff I get. This however, has been great. I literally plugged it in to my MacBook Pro ( I did have Toast Titanium already installed) and started burning Blu-Ray disks. It's relatively fast, and so far all discs have played. I have used it to burn Blu-Ray discs as well as burn and copy SD DVD's. I've used it via fire-wire and USB with little difference in speed. It is expensive, but If you need a Blu-Ray burner for a Mac- it's great. I have an HD video camera and was tired of viewing lower quality SD video. No you can't watch Blu-Ray's on it - that's not what it was intended for.

LG Electronics 10X Blu-ray SATA Writer Drive with Software WH10LS30K - Bulk (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)My systems in Win7-64. I replaced a CD reader drive with this LG unit. The swap-out was easy and the new drive worked perfectly the first time. When I installed the software that came with the CD it included an option to update the new drive's firmware. So I selected this and proceeded.
The firmware update program attempted to install new drivers for both the LG drive and my existing DVD-R/W drive. But the driver update failed because the drivers were not signed and Win7 requires signed drivers.
After that neither of my 2 optical drives worked. I had to do a System Restore to get them back.
I subsequently found out that Win7 has a boot option that allows you to bypass the requirement for signed drivers. This is the link to the page describing the fix:
[...]Just hit F8 when Windows is starting to get the boot option page.
By selecting the boot option I was able to successfully install all the software with no troubles. Rebooting afterwards got me back to normal Win7 with both drives working OK.
With this caveat I can recommend this drive for people wanting to create Blu-Ray disks. But it sure was a hassle finding the solution.

Then I installed the included Cyberlink software. I was watching a Blu-Ray within 30 minutes of opening the box. I run a HDMI through my Sony STR-DH800 to my 56" Panasonic 56lcz70, looks and sounds amazing. Turned on the pass-through feature, loved it.

LITE-ON 4x Blu-ray Disc SATA Internal Optical Drive iHOS104 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this drive as a 2nd drive in my computer, with the added ability to play Blu-ray discs. For the price it really can't be beat, especially since it includes good software that costs retail almost as much as the drive. It's also a very quiet drive. So far it plays everything I stick in it, with no problems. The picture on my new 23" HP 1080p monitor is drop-dead gorgeous and very stable. You do need a decent video card to use this drive, but the one that came with my new HP has a dedicated 512 mb of memory and works fine. It also has an HDMI output.
The only minus I can say about the BD drive is that it came with an SATA cable, but no power conversion adapter.

(More customer reviews)Very happy with it. I was nervous about the AMD chip because I didn't know anything about it, but the performance is fine. Keyboard is very nice. Screen is great. Weight is impressive for such a feature-laden laptop with a 14" screen, which is why I bought it. Well, that and the BluRay drive, which is hard to come by. I hate touch pads, but there are very few other options, so I just use a portable mouse. The touch pad is fine if you like them, including support for scrolling and some gestures. There's no Bluetooth, but that doesn't really bother me. Overall, I'm thrilled.

After trying the Cyberlink Power DVD 7 software that came with the computer, it would not work at all. I then installed Cyberlink Power DVD 9 Ultra with the latest updates installed and it played my Blu rays choppy.
I got hold of a free trial of Arcsoft Total Media Theatre 3 Platinum and it plays the same discs with no problems.
I search LG site for information on this drive, but could not find any.

Fortunately, I found DIGISTOR's solution. It's actually a Panasonic slot-load blu-ray burner designed for laptops, but the 5.25 casing and circuitry solution is all DIGISTOR.
It work's like a charm when I replaced my aging DVD burner -- I transplanted that off an old system when I built my new Intel i7 quad core PC. Now my new system is sporting a super sleek slot-loading Blu-ray burner courtesy of DIGISTOR.
Been using it for 4 months now, on a Windows 7 OS. No issues, no bad burns so far.
I also use DIGISTOR 25GB BD-R Media, Silver Surface Disc (25 pack) for my back up needs.
This one was definitely a good buy.

(More customer reviews)This is an excellent product and the prices are getting low enough that start making competitive with the HD drives, however right now the DL 50 gig discs are still expensive, price per gig is up there, from 25 to 30 cents per gig..the price should be about 8 to 11 cents to really be worth while and I am sure in a short time that will be the case.
Now for the criticism levied that its takes "3 hrs to burn and verify " a 50 gig disc... yeah if you use Windows XP and have a Dual core or single core cpu .
However if you do have an AMD or INTEL 6 core, your burn and verify times will be under an hour, this is using Neros latest Nero 10.
Bottom line, burn time is contingent on the power of your computer, the health of your software environment and the quality of burner you use.
Now the real issue is how to properly catalog and organize the filing system.
If you want to archive your entire iTunes or music library on one disc, or if you scan film or have huge media files, this is the way to go.
Very clean burn and excellent fidelity.
Highly recommended!!!

(More customer reviews)Disappointed to find drive rips Blu-Rays at same speed as 4x drive. If this is your use, save your money and buy a slower drive. The bottleneck is clearly drive speed.
Update 12-Jan-2010: Drive is very fast ripping DVDs. However, Blu-Rays rip 20% slower than my 4x LG. Very disappointed with Blu-Ray results. Otherwise, drive is great.
Update 25-Jan-2010: More information about the drive's slow Blu-Ray ripping performance is becoming available. Confirming my observations, there are reports that the shipping firmware limits dual layer Blu-Ray ripping to 4x. This is contrary to the specifications. However, you can increase the speed by using MediaCodeSpeedEdit software. Look for the program on cdfreaks website. With this software, the drive becomes a great performer.

Lite-On 4X SATA Blu-ray ROM Drive IHOS104-06 Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this for the first PC I built. Very easy installation. This drive is a great bang for your buck.
The only word of caution, this is the OEM version of the drive. It does not come with the Serial ATA cable needed to connect to your motherboard. Luckily my motherboard came with extra cables but that is something to consider when purchasing. But you can get a 18in SATA cable on amazon for a couple dollars so it's not a big deal.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this drive a couple days ago and installed it today. Installation was smooth and Windows 7 recognized the drive no problem. The drive is very quiet when operating. This drive does not come with software so if you plan to watch Blu-ray movies you will either need software already installed or you will need to purchase software. As it turns out the software for playing Blu-ray movies is going to cost upwards of $50 and maybe more. Options seem to be Cyberlink PowerDVD and Corel WinDVD.

Got them in time and set them up with LG DVD-RW.
Works great.
A full DVD-R take about 6 minutes. None fail. No errors.
A full DVD+R take about 15 minutes. And many fail.
I only use -R so I have no trouble with these. If you use +R forget it. Not sure if its me or not, but more than 50% of +R go bad. 0% of -R go bad.
